The last couple of days in Phuket were a great way to finish things off in Thailand. I went to the monkey temple which was pretty amazing. I spent ages wondering around the temple, which is in a series of caves and then went outside to feed the monkeys. It was wierd because when I arrived I couldn’t see any monkeys and I was really disappointed but then after walking around the caves they sold bunches of bananas to feed the monkeys so I bought a bunch. When I got outside there was one or 2 sitting on the rocks behind the trees and as soon as they saw me coming they came down. It was like an invasion, when they realised there was somebody there with food they all came down. There was about 40 monkeys and other people started to come and feed them so I was about to take photographs. I had been warned that they are not pleasant and that you should give them the food and not to try and touch then but this other lady decided to try and touch one and narrowly avoided getting bitten. Another monkey decided it wanted a whole bag of nuts and not just one or two so snatched the bag and was gone.
I went to the shopping centre and spent a lot of time chilling in the pool at the hotel, pleased that I had given myself a bit of luxury before moving on. I am still really high after the trip to Phang Nga and think it will take a while for that to sink in.
Getting up at 4.30am was a bit of a killer for the flight from Phuket to Kuala Lumpa but much better than the probable 20 hour train journey plus boarder crossing time. I think the plan at the moment is to stay in KL till the 3rd then on to Melaka for a couple of days before heading to Singapore. Melaka is suppose to be really nice and have a real mix of styles so that should be good. I will hopefully be meeting up with Shukor in KL and hope he can give me a few ideas of things to do.
